Newsletter Term 1 Week 10
Principal's Pen

As we come to the close of a busy and eventful Term 1, I want to take a moment to reflect on all that we've achieved together as a school community. This term has been filled with hard work, growth, and resilience—especially in light of the challenges brought on by Cyclone Alfred. Our school responded to the storm with strength, and I am incredibly proud of the way our staff, students, and families came together to support one another.
Despite the challenges, we have made it through, and our students have continued to show tremendous dedication to their studies and personal growth. It is a true testament to the spirit of resilience we foster here.
As we approach the Easter break, I want to wish each and every one of you a restful and rejuvenating holiday. Take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy the company of loved ones. I look forward to seeing everyone back, ready for another productive and exciting term.
Happy Easter, and may you all have a safe and peaceful break!

Prep – Year 2 Ditto Show
Our early years’ students had a great time learning essential personal safety skills through age-appropriate language, song and dance. The students learnt three easy to remember personal safety principles. Ditto’s three rules are:
- We all have the right to feel safe with people.
- It’s OK to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure.
- Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone.

Year 2 Cooking to Inspire Writing!
The students in Year 2 read the amazing story, The Stone Lion. As a follow up to this story, the students designed and then made some cookies. This cooking activity was the basis of their writing for the week. Lucky kids!

Religious Education Concert
The students who participate in Religious Instruction were able to attend an Easter Quiz Worx performance in the hall. They shared their message about Jesus through puppets, songs and drama. It certainly looked like everyone had a good time!

Congratulations Noah!
Noah in 1B is a rising star in the art world! He won first prize in the International Youth Painting Expo. We can see why!

Eggcellent Easter Celebrations!
Thank you so much to all the parents and carers that came to school to help make an Easter basket or bonnet. It has been wonderful to see so many parents joining in with the fun and learning. The students have worked so hard all term on their dances. We are so proud of them! As usual, My Young, Mrs Theuerkauf and the classroom teacher have put hours into supporting the students and we love them for it!

Easter Maths!
Despite all of the performances and Easter hat making, the students have been working hard right until the end of term...just with a little Easter twist! In Year 1 they completed a mathematical Easter Egg Hunt and they loved it! Our teachers are so clever at how they make learning so fun and engaging!

Belly’s Puppies
Belly’s Puppies has welcomed so many babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers this term! We are becoming very popular! So you don’t miss your on a spot, scan the QR code on the poster to book! Our first session next term will be on Friday 2 May.

Prep Thankyou
The Prep Team would like to thank Mrs Lee, a parent from Prep C, for designing and sewing the amazing capes for our little Preppies to use in their imaginary play.

PBL News
Over the past 3 weeks since out last edition of the newsletter we have been focussing on refining our skills within the following expectations:

Yr 6 Leaders
Our Student Captains had the privilege of attending the Youth Leadership Academy Australia (YLAA) Dream & Lead Conference at Brisbane City Hall in Week 8 . It was an inspiring day where they connected with other primary school leaders from across Queensland and gained valuable insights from guest speakers Olympian Brooke Hanson and Orange Sky founder Nicolas Marchesi.
A key message from the day was that leadership isn’t just about holding a title — it can be both badged and unbadged. True leadership is shown through actions, and one powerful way to lead is by showing empathy. Students were introduced to the GOT Strategy to help with this:
- G – Growing: Pause and consider the situation thoughtfully.
- O – Be Open: Listen and support others with an open mind.
- T – Trusting: Be consistent and reliable in your actions.
The students also explored the idea that challenges help to build resilience. They were encouraged to use the AAA Approach when facing obstacles:
- Accept – Acknowledge the challenge and believe, “I can do this.”
- Acknowledge – Reflect on past successes: “I have won before, I can win again.”
- Ask – Identify what’s needed to power through: “What do I need to move forward?”
The founder of YLAA guided the students through a framework for creating change. They were encouraged to start by identifying a big issue, then breaking it down to uncover the contributing factors. The key takeaway was to start small: focus on solving just one part of the problem, identify the resources needed, and consider who could help.
A powerful message shared with the students was from Wil Massara, YLAA’s founder:
“My age does not determine my ability to achieve extraordinary things.”

Guidance Officer News
Seek support:
If you have had concerns about your child’s progress, development or behaviour, the holidays can be a great time to catch up on appointments, or seek advice for new or ongoing concerns. We find that it is always best to seek a medical perspective early, starting with an appointment at your GP for advice. Appointments such, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, paediatrician check up’s. Testing hearing and sight can be done without a referral or cost and is quick and easy. Seeking this advice can ensure your child and family have the information and tools to support learning and attendance in the school environment.
NDIS Early Childhood approach can be accessed free for young children.

Seasons for Growth
Learning to live with change and loss
Everyone is affected by change and loss at some time in our lives. At Bellevue Park State School, we recognise that when changes occur such as separation, divorce, death, school transitions and natural disasters children may benefit from learning the skills to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering an education program called Seasons for Growth which will commence in term 2.
This program is facilitated in small groups of up to 7 participants and is based on research which highlights the importance of social support and the need the practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on building skills such as how to manage feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and develops peer support networks. Participation in the program can promote improved self-esteem and self-confidence as well as giving children the opportunity to find their own voice amid change.
If you think your child would enjoy joining the Seasons for Growth program, we encourage you to talk to them about it. We are pleased to be able to offer this successful program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those involved. If you require further information please contact our school social worker, Jenna, at jmgod1@eq.edu.au.
