2022 Term 1 Week 4
Principal's Pen - Sam Birch
Whilst the start to the school year has been an unprecedented one, here at Bellevue we anticipated Term 1 may be impacted by COVID so we're well prepared. Teachers have adapted their plans and are making the most of every minute in the school day! Thank you for thinking of our whole school community and remaining off campus if you are a parent of a child in Years 2 – 6. This decision has come from a government mandate and has been put in place to try and reduce the spread of COVID. If you are a parent of a child in Prep or Year 1, please remember to wear your mask whilst on school property.
New Build
We are so thrilled with our new black fence which has gone up by the netball courts. As I have mentioned in my weekly updates, the gate is currently blocked by the basketball fence. This is not a mistake and is in line with the new Prep Precinct, scheduled to start this year. Before the Prep Precinct can begin, three new classrooms will be created under Block 3 (this is why we can no longer have students under there at the start of the school day). Whilst this has been delayed, we are anticipating for this building work to begin within the next month. Exciting times!
P&C
We are so lucky to have a brilliant small group of P&C members who work hard to align their fundraising approaches to the school’s strategic agenda. We are continuing to work on our Shady Play initiative. Please remember that you can still be part of the P&C recycling fundraiser, even though we are not collecting at school. If you take your containers to your local re-cycle centre you can enter the school scheme ID code (C10007643) and the reimbursement will come straight to Bellevue Park P&C. Please remember to keep your receipts, as we will use these for our future prizes, when school collection starts again. Thank you so much for your continued support with this.
Our next P&C AGM will be held at 6pm on 1 March 2022.
Deputy Principal Prep-3- Megan Hay
I would like to welcome back all returning Bellevue Park families and the new families who have joined the BPSS community in 2022. Students have transitioned smoothly back to school after an extended break. They were engaged in learning from day one. I would like to commend our wonderful staff at BPSS and acknowledge the support from families for working together to make this transition back to school seamless.
During the first week of school, all teachers and students discussed and practised expectations that have set everyone up for a positive transition into our new grades and classrooms and these were based around our four school expectations.
Year 5 – iPad Learning
In year 5 we've been excitedly learning to use our iPads to enhance our learning. We have been very successful in annotating our close reading tasks on OneNote to improve our understanding of complex texts and researching natural disasters in HASS! This week we are looking forward to viewing images from NASA to develop our understanding of our solar system.
Tip to ease your child’s anxiety
Some students may feel anxious coming back to school after an extended break. See below for some quick tips to help your child feel great about coming to school each day:
- A good night’s sleep sets children up for a good day at school. After such a long holiday it is important to establish a regular and early bedtime so you are up and ready in the morning without feeling rushed. Children helping to pack their school bag the night before can also help with the morning routine.
- Make sure your child arrives at school on time every day. Children like a few minutes before the learning day starts to catch up with friends and be ready when the teacher starts teaching. The morning music pays at 8:50am
- ‘Knowledge is power’ and children feel more relaxed and secure if they are ready to fit in with school expectations. Help your child by talking about what to expect each day, ‘Today you have music’ or ‘You need to take your library books back tomorrow’.

News from 1D
Our class is called ‘Chalahn’ which is an Indigenous name meaning ‘Rainbow’. Every child is unique, special and colourful.
We have dived straight into learning these last few weeks. We have been developing our sight word recognition as this will help us to become confident readers. We have been playing sight word bingo and have been having fun while we learn.
Classroom News - 1B
We have been exploring how to collect data by asking questions. Learning about we can make inferences about data and how we can represent data in different ways.
Using shells we asked questions such as,
“What size is your shell?”
“What colour is your shell?”
“What shape is your shell?”
Together we created graphs to represent our ideas.
We’ve also been enjoying this fun Sea Animal Yoga https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=z2UQ5-cVHjs in 1B.
