Student Safety Remains Our Top Priority
At Bellevue Park State School, the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff is our highest priority. Like many schools in the South-East Region, we are focused on reducing physical altercations, which have unfortunately increased over the past year.
As a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) school, we teach and reinforce our expectations—I am safe, I am respectful, I am a learner—through weekly lessons, small group support, and individual guidance. Students are also recognised for meeting expectations through our Belly Points system, certificates, and the PBL shop.
While most students respond well to this positive approach, we also have clear procedures for addressing inappropriate behaviour. When it comes to physical altercations, particularly in middle and upper primary, suspension is one of the primary tools we will use to discourage students from solving conflicts violently and to honour our commitment to student safety. This message will be reinforced during assemblies and PBL lessons.
We remain committed to teaching students the skills they need to resolve conflict respectfully, but for the safety of all, we will take firm action when needed.

Community Involvement
Thank you to all the parents who have actively engaged with the school through school or classroom events including our recent Book Fair, the P&C, at our recent Trivia Night and buying raffle tickets. Your unwavering support and dedication have truly made a difference in creating a vibrant and enriching environment for our students. Thank you for your continuous involvement, enthusiasm, and commitment to our school community. We look forward to welcoming you again to our Performing Arts nights over the next few weeks!

Semester One Report Cards
This is just a reminder that all students are currently completing assessments and attendance at school is crucial at this time. Semester One Report Cards will be issued at the end of this term. Please take the time now to ensure your email address is correctly recorded with the school as this is how report cards will be issued.
In alignment with the Australian Curriculum, our grading system reflects the expectations outlined in the curriculum marking guide. A C grade (or Working With(WW) in Prep – Year 2) indicates that your child is meeting the proficiency levels as defined by the Australian Curriculum for their grade level. This means they are demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and understanding expected at their stage of learning. This is where we expect the majority of students to be and should be celebrated as a huge achievement. Conversely, an A grade indicates that your child is surpassing these expectations and demonstrating a deeper understanding and mastery of the content. Very few students will be working at this level, especially in Semester One. By referencing the Australian Curriculum marking guide, we ensure that our grading system remains consistent with national standards and provides a clear indication of your child's progress within the broader educational framework. If you would like more detailed information about the specific expectations for each grade level, we encourage you to explore the Australian Curriculum website or reach out to us for further clarification. We believe in recognizing and celebrating every student's achievements, regardless of the grade they receive, and we are committed to supporting each child on their unique learning journey. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's grades, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. Please note that your child’s teacher will make contact in the next few weeks if your child is not achieving at expected levels, to discuss this further with you before report cards are issued.
Deputy Principal Prep to Year 2 News

Under 8s Day
Last Monday, we celebrated being young (the children…not Mrs Birch!) by immersing ourselves in all things play based! This year’s theme was Unleashing Scientific Thinking Through Play. Not only did the students get to go to a Circus Show, they also experienced a wide range of fun and interactive activities organised by their teachers. We made straw rockets, mixed potions, got our faces painted and played with our Bee Bot robots (to name just a few activities!). It is always Belly’s favourite day and this year was no exception!

National Simultaneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime was on Wednesday, 21st May. It is an annual event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. The NSS book for 2025 was The Truck Cat, written by Deborah Frenkel and Danny Snell. This story was read simultaneously on Wednesday the 21st at 12:00pm, AEST. If you would like to read the story again with your child please use the links below.

National Reconciliation Week 2025: Bridging Now to next

National Reconciliation Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn, reflect, and contribute to the ongoing journey of reconciliation. Whether through attending events, engaging in conversations, or educating oneself, every action counts towards building a united and respectful nation. Here at Bellevue, we have been talking about this in an age-appropriate way, letting the children know, that by looking at the past we can learn from our mistakes and reflect on the fact that some First Nations People have experienced extreme sadness.

Celebrating the Special Ladies in Prep
Our Mother’s Day event in Prep always gets such an amazing turn out! It was so wonderful t welcome all of the important and special mothers, grandmothers and aunties into our classrooms. Getting to paint mum’s fingernails was a big hit!!

Learning Legends in Year 2
Our incredible students in Year 2 have been taking on some complex learning challenges this term. Not only are they learning how to use compound words (because, with, and, however, but…) in their sentences, they have also been learning how to divide. Tricky stuff!

Spotlight on Learning
Refining Our Writing – Learning in Action
Across our classrooms, students have been deepening their understanding of writing by exploring the structure and features of specific text genres. With the support of their teachers and the Third Teacher — our classroom Learning Wall — students are being guided to take their writing skills that little bit further.
This intentional focus on the writing process is now culminating in students producing independent written pieces, where they bring together all the learning they’ve been building over the term.
The images below show examples of our Third Teacher spaces, where students can access clear learning intentions, success criteria, vocabulary, and modelled examples to support their writing journey.
This is a great time in the learning cycle to check in with your child and ask:
- How are you going with your writing?
- How do you know you’re going well?
- What’s your goal to make your writing even better?
Students in Years 4, 5, and 6 may even like to share their draft with you directly from their iPad — a wonderful way to celebrate their progress and effort.
We look forward to seeing how students continue to develop as confident and purposeful writers!

Reconciliation Week
Last week as a school we recognised Reconciliation Week - a time to reflect on Australia’s shared history, recognise the cultures of First Nations peoples and consider how we can walk together toward a more united future. Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. It’s about acknowledging the past, engaging in the present and working together to shape a better future for the next generation. In class students engaged in age-appropriate discussions around Reconciliation and a number of students joined Miss Savage in chalk art creating our BPSS Reconciliation Walk.
Families can find out more about Reconciliation via the following link.

Year of Kindness: Spreading Kindness across the school
Our 2025 School Captains have continued to lead with heart and purpose, championing their theme of “A Year of Kindness” with a new Term 2 initiative — Kindness Club!
Launched this term, Kindness Club provides students with a welcoming and fun space to explore what it means to be kind. From Kindness Colouring and bookmark making to singing uplifting songs and playing games like Kindness Bingo, there’s something for everyone to enjoy while promoting positive connections.
Kindness Club sessions are open to all students:
- Years 1, 2 and 3: Tuesdays and Thursdays
- Years 4, 5 and 6: Wednesdays and Fridays
A huge congratulations to our Captains for continuing to lead with compassion and creativity. We are proud to see their vision inspiring kindness across the school.

We are excited to share that planning is well underway for this year’s Year 6 Graduation, a much-anticipated milestone for our senior students and their families.
