Newsletter – Term 3 Week 10 2024 – Principal’s Pen
As we approach school holidays, I want to extend my warmest wishes to all our families for a happy and restful break.
May you enjoy this time with family and friends, and return refreshed and ready for the new term.
Please note that Term 4 commences on Monday 30th September, 2024.
Term 3 Student-Led Conferences
We were thrilled with how many families took the opportunity this week to attend our ‘Student-Led Conferences’, to hear first-hand from your own children how they are progressing with their learning this year. We had over 550 interviews held, which was our biggest parental involvement ever. There was an incredibly positive feeling in the air during the event, and lots of smiles on faces.
We’d also like to thank our P&C volunteers for running the hugely successful sausage sizzle. I know there were a lot of appreciative parents who could fill those hungry, straight-after-school tummies!
Belly Spirit Winners for Term 3
This week we again acknowledged our ‘Belly Spirit Award’ winners with a delicious morning tea with the Principal. Our winners also got to spend some special one-on-one time with Belly as well. This term’s winners were nominated by their classroom teacher consistently exemplifying and following our 4 school values:
- I am Safe
- I am Considerate
- I am Respectful
- I am a Learner
We’d like to congratulate all our Term 3 winners and thank them for being such incredible role models for their peers.

Uniform & stationery donations
As we approach the end of the year, we’d love to remind our families that we always welcome donations of reading books, second-hand uniforms, school shoes and stationery in very good condition. These can be dropped at our administration office at any time.
White socks for the school uniform
A reminder to please ensure that your child’s BPSS uniforms include white socks, as black socks are not part of the approved attire. This break is a great time to check your supplies and replenish any white socks you may need.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Have a wonderful vacation, and see you next term!
Deputy Principal - Prep to Year 2 News
Preps Invade HOTA!
As part of their science unit, exploring the seasons, our Prep students jumped on a bus for the incredible free activities on offer at HOTA. I would strongly encourage you to visit there over the holidays. The artwork (including our rap song about the seasons) will be part of the incredible work on display! The festival is called, ‘Kids Take Over 2024’ and we certainly stayed to this brief during our visit! Click on the link below to find out more.

Year 1 Poem Recital
This term, our Year 1 students have been excitedly exploring the world of minibeasts. To celebrate their learning, the students invited their families to watch a special Bug Poem and Dance Performance. Through rhyme and rhythm, the students showcased their knowledge of buzzing bees, crawling ants, and beautiful butterflies, with cute headbands to match! Year 1 definitely caught the learning bug this term!
Year 2 Have Become Very Demanding!
This term in English, the Year 2 students have been learning techniques to make their writing more persuasive. This can be very motivating when trying to convince the Principal for more playground equipment!
Deputy Principal - Years 3 to 6 News
PBL News
Over the past few weeks year level teaching teams have looked at year level data to identify what is the most important skill to learn based on students' behaviour over the preceding weeks. Take a look at what we have been focussing on over the past few weeks alongside celebrating students earning belly points and ‘cashing’ them in at the PBL Shop. Check in with your child to make sure they have shared their PBL Menu levelled certificate with you!
Learning Conferences
Our student-led conferences took place on Tuesday afternoon and it was delightful to see and hear the excitement within the classrooms as students shared their learning journal with their parent/s.
Student-led conferences empower students to take ownership of their learning by showcasing their progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. This approach boosts student confidence, enhances communication skills, and fosters accountability. Parents gain valuable insights directly from their child’s perspective, creating a more personalized and engaging conference experience for everyone involved.
Yr 3 Excursion
On Wednesday our Year 3 students enjoyed and excursion to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. This excursion supported the students learning about scientific classification of living things, based on their observable features.
Students enjoyed information sessions on the various wildlife by the Sanctuary staff and viewing the animals first hand in their habitat.
Enterprising Girls Opportunities
Enterprising Girls Workshop @ BPSS
Last Wednesday, 45 of our Year 5 and 6 girls worked with The Young Change Agents group on the Academy for Enterprising Girls Program.
The students had an action-packed day working through the Design Thinking Process to create a small business start-up. The girls then pitched these ideas back to the group. Many amazing ideas were shared and there are definitely some future entrepreneurs in this group!
A fun day of learning was had by all.
Empowering Rising Stars: Enterprising Girls for the Future @ PPHS
Last Friday 12 of our Yr 5 and 6 girls took up the opportunity to participate in a whole day event at Pacific Pines High School that inspired growth within the fields of entrepreneurship & business. The girls worked collaboratively with other students from schools across the Gold Coast to identify a business initiative. They were inspired by women in leadership positions who have embraced opportunities to lead. These guest speakers included Meaghan Scanlon, Sonia Chadburn CEO of NAK Hair & and a past Pacific Pines High School student who is currently selling million-dollar properties for Mirvac.

It has been a very busy term for our Senior Band students getting ready for their Gold Coast Eisteddfod performance. After limited rehearsals and a new teacher, they performed exceptionally well and received 2nd Place as well as awarded a Gold Award for their performance. The Beginner Band has also welcomed an additional 10 students to the ensemble playing clarinet, alto saxophone and percussion (as there were positions available). We are all looking forward to our new members joining the Beginner Band early Term 4.
