Newsletter Term 3 Week 7
Principal's News
What a busy but exciting few weeks we’ve had at Bellevue Park SS!
Book Week
Our Book Week Parade last week was lots of the fun for all involved. The sun was shining, and we were thrilled to see so many parents able to join us for this event. Congratulations also to all our winners, both individual and whole class. Thanks to a large number of book donations, we were able to award Best Dressed Prizes to over 50 students! We’d like to thank our wonderful sponsors – Mr Rob Molhoek MP, Ms Angie Bell MP, Cr Brooke Patterson, the Young family & QBD bookstore, for their very generous donations.
As part of book week, I also took the opportunity to read Bluey Cricket to classes, sharing a lesson about how to be a good sportsperson. I visited 17 classes across the school from Prep to Year 4 and loved seeing how much the students enjoyed the experience of being read to by the principal.
P&C Colour Run
Our Colour Run was an incredible success, raising a remarkable $52,837! This achievement is a testament to the wonderful support and enthusiasm from our entire school community. A special thank you goes out to our dedicated P&C team, whose tireless efforts and organization made this event not only possible but also an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. From the vibrant colours to the boundless energy, it was an incredible afternoon of fun for all involved.
As previously mentioned, the funds raised will go towards much-needed playground improvements for our school. Your generous contributions will help us create a more engaging and enjoyable play environment for all our students. Thank you once again for your amazing support and for helping make this event a tremendous success.
Term 3 Parent-Teacher Interviews
Bookings for our ‘Student Led Conferences’ are open now. We encourage all parents and caregivers to attend with their student to share in and celebrate their learning journey so far this year. Your child will select some work samples, with the help of their teacher, to share with you and discuss their goals in English & writing.
Our Student-Led Conferences (Parent-Teacher Interviews) will be on Tuesday 10th September, 2024 from
3:45 – 6:00pm (week 10, Term 3).
Hall Refurbishment
We are excited that the replacement of our hall roof has now commenced. We apologise for the inconveniences this project has caused, particularly with access to Prep Village, but we promise it will be worth it in the end to have a functional hall that no longer leaks. Works are currently on track and will hopefully be finished early in Term 4, just in time for our Term 4 disco.
Please note at times the work site gates are opened as the contractors are arriving and departing. Please under no circumstances enter the site area.
We will keep you updated on the project progress as time passes.
Acting Deputy Principal News - Prep to Year 2
News from Nicole Forrester
Acting DP
Last week, our prep students had a fantastic time participating in the Prep Mini Olympics! With creative twists on classic sports, our young athletes showcased their skills in weightlifting with tissues, javelin throwing with spaghetti, and the always-exciting potato races.
Throughout the day, students eagerly followed the Olympic medal tally and cheered on Australia’s performances. It was a wonderful time filled with laughter, sportsmanship, and Olympic spirit.
Deputy Principal News - Year 3 to Year 6
PBL News
Over the past few weeks year level teaching teams have looked at year level data to identify what is the most important skill to learn based on students behaviour over the preceding weeks.
Take a look at what we have been focussing on over the past few weeks alongside celebrating students earning belly points and ‘cashing’ them in at the PBL Shop. Check in with your child to make sure they have shared their PBL Menu levelled certificate with you!
Learning
Student in Year 3 to 6 are preparing to bring all of their learning together in their written piece as we move towards the end of the term. This is a great opportunity to engage in a learning conversation with your child and ask them:
What are you learning about in writing?
How can you improve?
How did you use the success criteria to see how you are going?
Year 3
“We are learning to write a letter. We need to make sure we use the letter structure, use paragraphs and include adjectives to make our letter more interesting.”
2/3E “We are learning to write a letter I’m working on using noun groups and adverbs. To make our writing an A exemplar we need to include all the C parts plus subordinating conjunctions.”
Year 4
“We are writing a character description. I have been following the A exemplar. I need to have strong adjectives, noun groups, use alliteration and personification.”
Year 5
“We are comparing a novel and a film. I need to write 5 paragraphs that compare and contrast making sure I use the TEEL structure (Topic sentence, explain, evidence and link with a summary sentence to the next idea).”.
Year 6
“We are learning to write an Informative Explanation. About science experiments on states of matter. We describe aspects such as the physical, chemical, irreversible changes and why they happen. My goal is to continue to build my use of adjectives to describe the experiment.”
Yr 5 CAMP
During Week 5 our Year 5 students ventured outdoors to Runaway Bay Sports Centre.
Our Year 5’s enjoyed a variety of activities both at the centre and down by the Broadwater. The students further developed their team building skills engaging in Raft Building, Laser Tag, Survivor and various initiative games.
The weather allowed the sun to shine through on occasions whilst the students also enjoyed paddle boarding, archery and various beach games.
Camps are a fabulous time to connect with peers and learn how to work alongside others. The energy within the students certainly showed they had a fabulous time but were ready for a good night’s sleep at home after 3 days of lots of physical activity.
Year 3 Families ( YR 4 2025)
Just a reminder to our Year 3 families, that next year students entering Year 4 will require an iPad. This is a great time to shop around and secure an iPad in order to forward plan for Christmas. Please refer to the information below which ahs been sent out to Yr 3 families via email.
STEM News
During Week 6, four of our STEM Excellence students competed in the annual Queensland Academies Health and Sciences STEM Competition.
This competition involved students from various schools across the Gold Coast competing against each other in a series of STEM challenges.
We are very proud to announce that Bellevue Park State School won first place in a hard-fought competition.
Amazing teamwork combined with excellent thinking and communication skills were displayed by Niklas, Winnie, Fabian and Scout and we are very proud of their achievement.
