Newsletter Term 3 Week 3
Principal's Pen
I am delighted to share with you the outstanding achievements of our students as we reflect on a remarkable Semester 1. Our students have excelled not only in their academic pursuits with their Semester 1 report card results, but also in their commitment to personal growth and excellence. In particular, I am thrilled to announce that our school has achieved incredible NAPLAN results, surpassing the state mean in every test across both Years 3 and 5. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and supportive community.
2024 School Opinion Survey – We are seeking parent feedback!
Parents/caregivers—an invitation to complete the parent/caregiver survey has now been emailed to 1 parent/caregiver per family. The invitation is sent from the department, not the school. If a family has more than 1 parent/caregiver, check that your child’s other parent/s haven’t received the invitation and/or check your junk email folder. We appreciate all your responses and the feedback regarding how we are performing as a school.
Early Departures
I wanted to take a moment to address an important matter regarding early pickups of students from school. Lately, we have observed a significant increase in the number of students being picked up before the end of the school day at 2:55 PM.
It's crucial to emphasise that early pickups should not be seen as a convenience for parents or a way to avoid traffic. Each early departure disrupts your child's learning and can impact their educational progress. Therefore, we kindly request that students remain in school until the end of the day unless there is a genuine emergency.
We understand that occasional circumstances may necessitate early pickups, such as unforeseen emergencies or urgent appointments. In cases where medical appointments are planned, we encourage you to schedule them for after school hours whenever possible, to minimize disruption to your child's learning.
Your cooperation in ensuring that students attend school for the full duration of the day is greatly appreciated. Being here till the end of the school day is just as important as being on time at the start of the school day. Consistent attendance is vital for their academic success and overall well-being.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Who Knew Reading Could Be So Much Fun?!
Students in 2/3E have been very creative during their reading time. The students have loved using oral storytelling and the readers theatre to retell their favourite stories.
***Mrs McAuley would also like to acknowledge Kyla (Year 2) and Mya (Year 3) as this semester’s student council representatives.***
It’s a Bug’s Life!
The students in Year 1 had a visit from Bug’s Education, which has ignited their curiosity for their Science topic this term based around living things. What an exciting way to start a new unit of learning.
Preps Go Wild!
Our Preps have experienced their first excursion, and didn’t they have fun! They sang songs on the bus, explored the beautiful Botanical Gardens with their five senses and then even had time for a picnic and a play.
BPSS Community are the Best!
We are all things green here at BPSS! Thanks to the Gardening Club and the Mushrooms in Schools initiative, we have lots of exciting things happening in our green spaces at school. We are so grateful to all of our amazing volunteers that came to Gardening Club this this week. We had big hands and small hands all working together to make our school look beautiful and be an inviting place for our families.

NAPLAN
Parents of Year 3 and 5 students should have received their child’s NAPLAN report. We are proud of the efforts of our students and staff in achieving outstanding results again.
Parents may wish to refer to the NAPLAN Information for parents and carers (see below)
From 2023, new standards were introduced to NAPLAN reporting. This reporting replaces the previous numerical NAPLAN reporting bands and national minimum standards. Education ministers agreed 2023 was the right time to introduce this change alongside moving NAPLAN to March.
Proficiency standards provide clear information on
student achievement. They are set at a challenging but reasonable level expected for the child at the time of NAPLAN testing, based mainly on what has been taught in previous years of schooling.
There are 4 proficiency levels:
- Exceeding: The student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: The student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: The student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: The student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.

During Week 2, the instrumental program welcomed a guest teacher Mrs Louise King to workshop with our students for the day. All three ensembles got to spend some time with her, working on language skills and describing sound and textures and finding innovative ways to make these sounds on the instruments. We worked on movement, listening, composing and creating and most importantly lots of team activities. So much fun to be had!

Band News
Hi, my name is Mathew Caulton and I am the new Band teacher for Bellevue Park. I have been teaching instrumental music around the Gold Coast for the past 10 years. Prior to working on the Gold Coast I worked in North Queensland and also the United Kingdom. It has been great meeting all the band students, and hearing what they have achieved so far. Hopefully we can continue this great work for the rest of the year.
If your child is in Year 4, and currently not playing an instrument, we have positions available for the clarinet. The school has instruments available to hire for the rest of the year. Any questions regarding this please email me mcaul7@eq.edu.au.
Any further questions about your child currently in the program, or would like to join the program, please feel free to contact me.
