Newsletter – Term 3 Week 7 2023 – Principal’s Pen
What a busy but exciting few weeks we’ve had at Bellevue Park SS! Our ‘Beat of the 80’s shows were absolutely spectacular, and I hope you all had a chance to come and celebrate what incredible performers your children are. We then followed this up with our Book Week Parade this week, was is always lots of the fun. The sun was shining, and we were thrilled to see so many parents able to join us for this event. Congratulations also to all our winners, both individual and whole class.
Term 3 Parent-Teacher Interviews
Bookings for our ‘Student Led Conferences’ will open on Monday 28th August (week 8). We encourage all parents and caregivers to attend with their student to share in and celebrate their learning journey so far this year. Your child will select some work samples, with the help of their teacher, to share with you and discuss their goals in English & writing.
Our Student-Led Conferences (Parent-Teacher Interviews) will be on Tuesday 12th September, 2023 from 3:45 – 6:00pm (week 10, Term 3).
More information about how to book will be issued on Monday 28th August via email.
Interior Car Park Refurbishment
We are excited to announce that our interior staff carpark will soon be extended and refurbished, to improve safety for our students and provide additional parking spaces for staff. Unfortunately, this will involve significant building works that are anticipated to take approximately 12 weeks to complete. Works are expected to begin on October 30th, 2023, and conclude at the end of January 2024. Staff will need to park outside school grounds during construction, which will have some impact on available parking at school drop off and pick up times. Hopefully these inconveniences will be short lived, and we can be enjoying our updated staff car park early in the new year.

Book Week
This week here at Bellevue we have been celebrating the world of books. Our library has been transformed into a scene from Hogwarts, where students have been playing Wizard’s Chess and listening to the some of their favourite teachers reading various stories to them, including, of course, Happy Potter!
As usual we celebrating together by parading on Thursday as our favourite characters and singing our reading song. Whilst the students had a great time dressing up, this year, I think the teachers were incredibly excited…even Luna, our Support Dog was dressed up!
Thank you so much for supporting your child/ren within taking part in this great event, all designed to immerse our students into the world of books and promote a love of reading.
Year 1 Media Marvels!
The Year 1 students have been utilising Media Arts to show their scientific understanding. The students completed a drawing of their favourite animal and then used the Seesaw app to take a photo of it and then turn it into a digital diagram, complete with labels. The work below is from: Savanna, Neave, Ludovico and Ahmet all from 1A.
Deputy Principal Year 3 - 6
STEM Excellence
Back in Week 5 the STEM Excellence students went on an excursion to Keebra Park High School to tour the Technology Department facilities and learn about the Esports program offered by the school’.
Science Week
Last week Bellevue Park celebrated National Science Week. Classes from Prep to Year 6 undertook many fun and interesting science challenges and experiments including making bubbles, building bridges, learning about static electricity, flying paper planes, and making catapults just to name a few.
Students from all year levels loved celebrating and learning about science and we can already see some budding future scientists in the making!
2024 Yr 4 & 5 Cohorts
2024 eLearning iPad Requirements
At Bellevue Park State School, the Year 5 and Year 6 cohorts of students have operated as eLearning classrooms since 2013. This highly effective educational approach in the senior primary years continues to support high levels of student engagement and learning for our students. The digital rich learning environment of an eLearning classroom assists children to develop essential twenty-first century knowledge and skills. Further to our BYOD program at Bellevue Park, we will be commencing the inclusion of iPads in Year 4 in 2024. This will further enhance the students’ digital literacy skills and confidence in operating the key programs they will then utilise across Years 5 and 6. It is therefore an expectation that all students commencing Year 4 in 2024 will commence the new school year with an iPad. We encourage you to commence planning for the provision of a personal iPad for your child/ren for Year 4 & 5 in 2024.
Please note the following recommendations when sourcing this device:
Please note that the specification that all devices are iPads is necessitated by school infrastructure, the logistics of planning and resource development and suitability for teaching and learning programs.
Several local retailers will be happy to offer a discount to students and support many schools who have a BYOD program.
PLEASE NOTE. It is highly recommended that you add your child/ren’s iPad to your personal insurance, as the school does not cover damage, loss or theft.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Deputy Principal for Years 3-6, Mrs Shiree Salazar through the school office.
Transition to High School
As students near the end of Primary school it is a time to start considering options from High School. Our local High Schools provide the opportunity to apply for Excellence programs and in this edition of the newsletter we share with you the Academic Excellence opportunities on offer.
Benowa State High School:
Academic STEM Excellence
The innovative Academic STEM Excellence Program challenges those students with a love and a passion for the sciences to reach their highest academic potential in those subjects leading to careers and future leadership in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
Students sit 2 x 40 minute sessions with a small break in between each session. The exam is similar to a NAPLAN test. Students are required to bring a pen, pencil, ruler and water bottle. Parents/Carers do not have to remain at the school during the exam. Application forms must be completed and returned along with the required supporting documentation prior to the Academic Exam date, for your student to be eligible to sit the exam.

String News - Sarah Larmor
Massive congratulations to our amazing string students who participated in the Gold coast eisteddfod this year. It was a great opportunity for the students to showcase the skills they have developed across the terms and also to listen and observe fellow instrumentalists from various schools across the Gold Coast.
The Paganini Orchestra came 4th and were awarded a Gold Ribbon. The Synergy Orchestra came 1st place and were awarded Platinum. The adjudicator commented on our great ensemble skills and teamwork as well as dynamics and tone production. I could not be prouder of how well our students performed.
Thanks to you all for supporting our Instrumental Music program and special thanks to Mr Chapman and Mrs Salazar for attending the event alongside many ensemble parents.
In other news, our recruiting concert is coming up on Wednesday in week 10. This is for all prospective string students who may be interested in finding out more about what is involved in playing a stringed instrument. All year 2 students are attending and any older students are welcome to attend too. It will be held at 9am in the hall.
