Principal's Pen
Newsletter – Term 2 Week 7 2023 – Principal’s Pen
Welcome Mrs Salazar!
It is with great pleasure that I introduce our new Deputy Principal, Mrs Shiree Salazar. Mrs Salazar will be replacing Mrs Watt as Deputy Principal for Years 3 – 6. Mrs Salazar brings with her a wealth of experience, and a passion to make a difference in the lives of our Bellevue students. Please say hello to her if you see her around the school!
Attendance Matters – Every Day Counts!
With the opening of international borders for travel, and the rise of winter illness, we’ve seen a significant decrease in the overall attendance rates across the school. I’d like to remind you that it is an expectation that students are at school EVERY day. Regular school attendance means that students:
- learn better and have higher academic results
- make stronger friendships and have improved social skills
- are happier
- have a brighter future and more opportunities available to them
Under Queensland law, you must make sure your child of school age is enrolled and attends school all day, every school day unless they have a reasonable excuse. Illness, doing work experience, competing in a school sporting event or going on a school excursion are reasonable excuses for being absent from school. Avoid keeping your child away from school for birthdays, shopping, visiting family and friends, if they sleep in, looking after other children, minor check ups or care such as hair cuts. Routine medical or other health appointments should be made either before or after school, or during the school holidays.
Families are encouraged not to schedule holidays during school time. If you must go away during a school term, please let the school know in advance and talk about what arrangements can be made for your child.
We are currently reviewing all attendance rates and sending letters home to those families whose children fall below the expected attendance rate of 92% (or 7 full days absent). Frequent late arrivals and early departures will also impact your child’s attendance rates. If required, we will also be contacting these families to schedule meetings to discuss how we can support their family and child to improve their attendance at school.
While it is a last resort, it is important to understand that you may be prosecuted if your child is not attending school regularly.
If you require support to improve your child’s attendance at school, please contact either Mrs Birch or Mrs Salazar for further assistance. We want to work in partnership with our families to get the best possible outcomes for all our students. Thank you for your support in ensuring your child is at school every day to learn.

Our Prep Village official opening was a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many parents, staff and students enjoying the space. Retelling Favourite Stories in Prep!
The Prep students have been immersed in reading many wonderful stories this term. They are then creating dioramas and puppets to help them in retelling these beautiful stories. My favourite were the potato puppets used to retell the story ‘Potato People’!
Working and Playing Hard in Year 1!
The students in Year 1 have been incredibly motivated by our positive reward system. The students are so proud of the points they are earning for hard work and beautiful behaviour. Their choices are wide ranging, including non-tangible rewards such as getting to wear slippers all day or tangible ones where they get to choose something from our PBL shop. Working hard to play hard in Year 1! They are very engaged in the mathematics learning all about 2D shapes and 3D objects where many Dojo points have been earned!
Green Thumbs in Prep!
The Prep students have had a wonderful time planting up our garden beds. We will have some yummy vegetables and sunflowers blooming soon!
Deputy Principal 3-6
Dear Bellevue staff,
My name is Shiree Salazar and I am the new Deputy Principal Years 3- 6 at Bellevue Park SS.
Over the past 2 days it has been lovely to meet many of you in my travels and I appreciate the warm welcome and guidance already provided to me, as I learn Bellevue’s way of working. I am writing to formally introduce myself and share my professional journey.
I completed my Bachelor of Education at Griffith University here on the Gold Coast before commencing my first contract for a term at Labrador State School alongside former Bellevue Principal’s wife, Helen Hartley. I was appointed as a permanent employee at Coomera State School where I enjoyed being a classroom teacher and contributing to various initiatives within the school. I took 12 months leave to venture to London where I enjoyed teaching at various schools before securing a contract at a lovely, little school opposite the Chelsea and Westminster hospital. On my return to Australia, I commenced pursuing a career in Real Estate whilst continuing to teach at Coomera. In a growing school moving from 650 students to 1200, I was offered the opportunity to act as Deputy Principal. It was a privilege to provide support and leadership and walk alongside the dedicated staff over my 10 plus years as Deputy Principal (21 years in total at Coomera State School). In late 2019, I made the difficult decision to leave my colleagues I call family to pursue a wonderful opportunity to experience the private sector at All Saints Anglican College as Assistant Principal Years 3- 6. It was a heart & head decision that saw me relinquish my position at All Saints and return to State Education, where the department then placed me at Worongary State School as DP. Over the past 2 years, I have been fortunate to support the school improvement agenda working alongside staff in their collaborate work to support student learning using Sharratt’s framework.
Prior to applying for the Deputy position, I was aware of the professional and supportive culture and quality teaching practices that have been embedded within your way of working at Bellevue Park SS, which excited me. I feel very privileged to be given this opportunity to be part of a high performing team and am really excited. I look forward to getting the chance to meet you all in person, over the course of the next few weeks. I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the entire team.
If you have any questions or aspects to make me aware of, please feel free to reach out to me directly. My door is always open or simply connect on my travels. Alternatively, the lovely office staff will have access to my calendar and can schedule time for us to connect.😉

Newsletter – Guidance Officer June 2023
Luna has received lots of love from the kind and caring students at Bellevue Park. She can often be seen on Thursdays in the Guidance Office or Calm Room. Her role is an emotional support dog, but all students who are comfortable around dogs are welcome to interact with her. Luna loves all the cuddles and attention she receives and she puts a smile on everyone’s faces. We have some rules that she is asked to sit, then one person at a time gives her a treat or spends time with her. She has special permission to be on school grounds.
Thankyou everyone who has engaged with the Thriving Kids and Parents project.
Some great tips were shared.
