Newsletter – Term 1 Week 7 2023 – Principal’s Pen
It is so hard to believe that we are almost through term 1 already! We have been so busy this term with such fantastic learning and social experiences, and still have plenty more planned for the remainder of this term.
Disco
A huge thank you to our Bellevue Park P&C for putting on such a fantastic school disco on Friday night. It was so much fun and everyone that attended had a ball. There were some truly inspiring 80’s costumes and we all remembered exactly why we were happy to see the end of 80’s fashion trends! Our next big events will be our adults only ‘Bellevue Ball’ on Saturday April 22. We hope you all have your tickets already as it is promising to be a fabulous night with some amazing raffle prizes up for grabs!

New School Chaplain
We are very excited to announce that we have a school chaplain who will be starting at Bellevue Park State School in the coming weeks. Chappy Em is already working 2 days per week at each of Clover Hill SS and Park Lake SS, and is excited to be joining our student support team on Fridays. She will also be available for student support, and loves getting out during break times to interact and kick a ball with the kids. We will send out further information and an introduction from her when she commences with us.
Clean Up Australia Day
On Friday 3rd March, our Environmental Club organised a whole school clean up as part of Clean Up Australia Day celebrations. Each year level was designated to a particular section of the school and spent time outside beautifying and cleaning their areas. We are very proud of everyone’s efforts and think our school looks extra beautiful now. Thank you, students!
Clean Up Australia Day!
Free Dress Day to celebrate Harmony Day 2023 – Tuesday 21st March (Week 9)
On March 21st 2023 all around Australia, Australians will be celebrating Harmony Day. Harmony day is a celebration that recognises our diversity, and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. On Harmony Day here at Bellevue Park, we will be celebrating the diversity of cultures in our school and community. To show our support, we will be encouraging our students to wear an orange t-shirt with their school shorts/skirts (shirt or scrunchie), or something from your own cultural background. This can be something that represents your culture through inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. There is no donation required. At first break in the library, we will have some parents from our community coming in to create cultural artwork with the students. Classrooms throughout the school will be celebrating the diversity within the classroom with activities all week.

Celebrating Learning in Year 4
This term the year 4 students are busy reading an all-time
favourite, “The Twits”, by Roald Dahl, in preparation for
writing their own chapter for the book.
Here’s what some of the students shared this week about
their learning:
Harper – We have been reading the Twits and are planning a new chapter. We will need to use ‘sizzling starts’ to write our sentences. | Delilah M – We’re using interesting vocabulary choices to write our new paragraphs – I really like finding different words to describe the Twits. | Eden – I’m trying to use interesting verb groups and effective language features to make my writing interesting. I love describing the prankful Twits! |
Elora - We have been learning about using figurative language in our paragraphs. I’m understanding figurative language and it’s fun to use our imagination to write our own stories. | Ilah - When we write our new part for The Twits, we will be including MrsTwit’s revenge on the “frog-bed” trick that Mr Twit played on her. I think I will include lots of action verbs and descriptive words. | Chise – We are learning to make our writing more exciting by using onomatopoeia, hyperbole and metaphors. I’m enjoying making up fun phrases to describe the Twits. |
Delilah T- In our writing we’ve been focussing on using language features such as idioms, similes and alliteration. E.g.: “He could eat a horse”; “She sleeps like a baby”; and “The terrible Twits tormented the monkeys”. |
Student Leaders for 2023
During the Week 4 Assembly the new student leaders for 2023 were presented with their badges. This included all Captains and the Student Council representatives from Year 1 to Year 6. Congratulations to our 2023 Captains:
Congratulations also to the Student Council members this year -
NAPLAN 2023
NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake. All NAPLAN Tests Australia-wide have moved to the Online platform, except for Year 3 Writing, which continues in paper format.
From this year, the NAPLAN testing period will occur in March each year. Our Year 3 and 5 students have been engaged in activities to become familiar with the online platform in readiness for the tests, commencing from Wednesday 15th – Wednesday 22nd March. This allows for all tests – Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy – as well as Catch-up sessions for students who may be absent on a test day, to be scheduled for both Year 3 and 5 students.
Parents, thank you in advance for helping set your student up for success over this testing period with the following:
- Ensuring your child gets a good night’s sleep - with reduced screen time at night and in bed on time
- A good breakfast each morning to set the up with the energy to focus on the tests
- Year 5 students need to have their iPads fully charged overnight. Whilst the school does have some iPads available, which can be swapped with the student device without losing any of their responses should there be any technical issues during the tests, having their iPad fully charged will alleviate any unnecessary stress during each test.
- Arriving at school ahead of the first bell each morning – the music plays at 8.50am with classes commencing at 8.55am.

Prep Village
Our Prep Village is really taking shape! Work has now begun on the inside of the classrooms and the grounds. We are anticipating that Prep C, D and E will be able to start Term 2 in their new classrooms! The space is going to be so amazing and will support our balanced, play based program. Here are some photos taken this week.
