Term 1 Week 3
Principal's Pen - Robyn Hutchins
The start of a new school year is always an exciting time full of energy, potential and enthusiasm. After three jam-packed professional development days in mid-January, our staff were keen to get back into their classrooms and meet their new classes. We welcome back all our returning students and their families, and warmly embrace our new students and their families. Our enrolments have grown substantially over the past 12 months, and we officially have 707 students starting with us this year, up from 676 last year. We have started the year with 30 classes across our seven year levels and the students have all settled in so well.
Bellevue Park’s 40th Anniversary!
We have many exciting plans for 2023, especially being our 40th Anniversary. Planning is well underway for our Bellevue Ball in April, a glamorous adults-only event to celebrate our history. We welcome all past and current families to join us. Ticket information can be found below. We are also planning a school fete, the Bellevue Fair, to be held in term 3. More information will follow about this in the coming months. A huge thank you to our P&C for organising these incredible opportunities for our school, in addition to their usual events including our school disco and Mother’s and Father’s day stalls.
Building Update
We are very excited to announce that our new multi-purpose courts have been finished and are open for use! They are proving to be very popular, and the kids are really enjoying using the extra space and playing basketball on the amazing new surface. At present, our Year 5 & 6 students can use them during lunch breaks, and other year levels are able to use them during HPE lessons or with their classroom teacher under supervision.
Our Prep building work is still ongoing, and the students were very excited to see the arrival of the crane this week. At this stage, two of the three new classrooms are provisionally finished, and the third classroom is currently under construction. We are also pleased to announce that the Prep amenities block will be getting a much-needed refurbishment as part of these building upgrades.
Prep Construction
You will have also noticed that construction on our new school fence is well underway. We know it is does not look pretty at the moment, but we are hopeful that the majority of the construction work around the school will be finalised by the start of Term 2. The installation of the new fence will also mean the school is far more secure over weekends and school holidays.

Whole School ‘Welcome to 2023’ Assembly – Week 2
The first whole-school assembly of the year is always a special one, as our Year 6 students escorted our newest students – the Prep cohort – in for their very first assembly.
During this assembly, we were also treated to:
* the Warriors Dance, performed by the Indigenous students’ Chungerra Dance group from Keebra Park SHS.
This performance had both students and adults enthralled, and we look forward to further partnering with Keebra SHS to build on our cultural awareness at BPSS this year;
* the presentation of our 2023 Class Indigenous Names, and
* the sharing of our totems, selected from the Kombumerri totems for the land on which we meet for learning every day.

Meet the Teacher
Thank you to all parents and carers who attended last week’s Meet the Teacher sessions! It was great to see so many come along in person to hear about the expected learning ahead this year. Please remember, your child’s classroom teacher is your first point of contact if you develop any queries or concerns around your student’s learning during the year.
Year 5s – iPad Learning
Our Year 5 students have taken to their learning on iPads over the first weeks of the year. A huge thank you to parents for ensuring the required apps were set up, and to our fantastic team for getting the students up and running. Here are some examples of students using their devices already:

Off to a flying start in red hats!
Our new Prep Bulldogs have found their feet at ‘big school’ and we couldn’t be happier with their progress. The students have been building confidence and connections by exploring their new environments by playing games together. Please could you remind your Prep child to wear their hat on the red side? Due to the building work, our Prep students are playing with the other early year’s students. Having their hats to the red side, helps us to identify them more easily and keep them safe whilst they are learning about their new environment.

Staying Cool!
Some of our students have been taking advantage of our clubs that teachers are running at lunchtime to stay in the air conditioning. The students get to bust out some moves at Just Dance Club and stay cool! Just Dance is on each Thursday lunchtime.

Reading is always our top priority!
In Year 2 the students have been enjoying some fun spaces in their rooms to learn how to ‘Eekk’ read!

40th Birthday Celebration Drone Shot!
As part of our 40th birthday celebrations, we have had a drone shot taken of all students and staff on Friday. We have grown, just a little, since our early days in the 1980s…this staff photo has some great outfits! A whole school shot was taken to celebrate our 30th Birthday back in 2013. Lots of familiar faces there, which is lovely.
