2022 Term 3 Week 7
Principal's Pen - Robyn Hutchins
What a busy few weeks we have ahead! So many activities from the Science Fair right the way through to Book Character Parade! It is so wonderful to see our students engaged in such a wide range of activities.
Building Update
We have had another meeting with the construction team and are thrilled with the progress. We are currently on track for the classrooms to be finished under Block 3 by the end of this term, so work can begin on our Prep Village. This will mean some changes in routine for our Prep students and we will communicate this with you nearer to the time. Below are some photos of the work so far – so exciting!

WEEK 8 – PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS TUESDAY 30TH AUGUST
With Semester 2 learning well underway, students are working towards achieving their Learning Goals identified at the end of last term.
Parents, the upcoming Parent-Teacher Interviews this week will provide you with the opportunity to discuss how your child is progressing since their Semester 1 Report, and to raise any concerns you may have about your child’s learning this term.
As you know, the health and safety of our community, including our staff, is paramount, particularly during the current high level of flu and continuing COVID infections still circulating. As such, we therefore ask for your assistance with the following:
. Please do not bring children to this event
. Where possible, have only one parent in attendance
. We encourage social distancing, hand sanitising and mask wearing
. Please use the entry point into the Hall at the carpark end, and exit via the side doors
. Seated waiting areas will be available outside of the hall.
BOOK CHARACTER PARADE
How wonderful it was to welcome parents and grandparents back into the school for our annual Book Character Parade last week! The costumes were absolutely amazing – thank you for the help from home in creating these. Once again, this event celebrated the love of reading and involved all our students from Prep to Year 6, as well as our staff getting into the spirit of the event. Please enjoy the selection of photos from the morning and we look forward to another great event next year!
BUILDING CULTURAL AWARENESS
Recently we were visited by the Indigenous Students Dance Troop from Keebra Park SHS, in recognition of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People. This group of young Indigenous Year 7 – 9 boys showed great confidence in performing for our students, sharing their cultural connections through dance. Our students were enthralled by the three dances performed. Here’s a little taste of their moves:
EVENTS TO FINISH TERM 3
We have lots of events to finish off Term 3 over the next few weeks! Here’s a snip from the Parent Calendar to help you plan accordingly.
Deputy Principal - Sam Birch
Here at Bellevue we acknowledge and appreciate the crucial role that you, the parents, have played in being your child’s first teacher, in making crucial decisions for your child based on their best interests and needs, and that you want your child to be successful in their literacy development.
Early oral language skills underpin the success of children learning language, and then learning to read. Please view the very short video, Oral language development, on the importance of developing oral language (2 minutes:43 seconds in duration) found at this site under Partners in learning videos: https://readingwritingcentre.education.qld.gov.au/resources/videos
Literacy development at school takes into consideration the following elements (in no particular order of importance as they are all crucial):
- Phonemic Awareness
- Phonics
- Fluency
- Vocabulary knowledge
- Text comprehension
This link will take you to a booklet, developed by the Department of Education, and found in the Reading and Writing Centre, that will provide you with suggestions on how to make reading fun and interesting, and remember, it is just as important that you read regularly to your child, as it is for them to read to you:

Some Quick tips to get you started!
Perfectly Timed!

Just an update over the holidays Nixon, Tallis and Elias competed at the Jason Hetherington Gary Larson Cup in Gladstone and although there were no finals they were undefeated 9 from 9.

Their team finished 6th.
Nixon then trialled last weekend for the Queensland Kiwi Rugby Union Representative team to compete in the Pacific Youth Rugby Festival in Sunshine Coast in October and was named and achieved selection into this team also. Congratulations Nixon!
