2022 TERM 1 Week 9 UPDATED VERSION
Principal's Pen - Sam Birch
Staffing
Introducing our new class…3D!
Due to increased enrolments (why wouldn’t you want to come to our school?) we have been allocated an additional teacher. As Year 3 had the largest numbers, we have created a fourth class for this year level. Their teacher will be Tiffany Storey, a highly skilled and much-loved Bellevue teacher who is returning from leave. The students have settled well into their new room and are loving being next door to Mrs Patterson in 3C!
Introducing Mr Stuart Foster!
Kymberly Keating, who is part of our Year 1 team, is about to start an incredible adventure! Her family has decided to relocate to Central Queensland where she has been offered a position at a school in Gladstone. Whilst we are saying goodbye to one amazing teacher, it has opened the door for another. Mr Stuart Foster, who has been part of our Bellevue team since the start of the year, will be taking over the class. He has been a great addition to the team and I know 1D will really enjoy having him as their teacher. Good luck Kym!
Permanent Principal
The process in attaining a permanent Principal for a school is a very thorough process. The position was given priority to existing Principals wanting to transfer or relocate. No appointment was made in these initial stages, so the position will now be advertised state wide. The region is hoping to finalise the position towards the end of Term 2. With Bellevue being such a high performing and welcoming school, I am sure the calibre of applicants to choose from will be extremely high. In the meantime, thank you so much for your continued support, it has been incredible!
Fun Times in Prep!
This week in Prep, they had a special guest come in to help the students with their phoneme work. Her name was ‘Holly the Cowgirl’ who loves feeding her horse, Helen, hay! Can you guess what sound they were working on! Much fun was had by all, maybe too much fun from Holly!

Wearing the correct uniform shows we are a team and that we take pride in being part of the best school on the coast! As we near the end of term, just a reminder about the expectations around our uniforms.

Captains Badge Ceremony – Week 9
This week our Years 4 – 6 classes attended the Captains Badge Ceremony. Again, this was conducted under current COVID guidelines, with parents of our Captains in attendance to assist Mrs Birch in presenting their badges. Parents and our student leaders certainly looked very proud.
This year, we are once again very fortunate to have a high calibre of captains to lead our school, with several of them already taking on a variety of responsibilities. They are all keen to step up and contribute to the many events planned across the year.
We have included a selection of photos from the Assembly below:
Please keep an eye out for the timing of our Assemblies for Term 2.
Parent Teacher Interviews - Tuesday 29th March
Parents and Carers, please check you have received the paper copy of your child(ren)'s student information needed to access the PTO website, to book a time slot for a parent teacher interview before the end of Term 1. These meetings will be strictly 10 minutes per meeting to allow all parents the chance to catch up with class teacher and, for Years 5 and 6, the Specialist teachers, should you wish to discuss the application process for excellence programs offered by our partner secondary schools.
Sizzling Starts - Year 4 students practising their Writing skills!
Year 4 have been honing their writing skills in preparation to writing their own chapter for the Ronald Dahl classic "The Twits". One of these skills is to write a sizzling start to hook the reader in. Here are some samples from 4D:
Celebration of Learning
Though the teaching program this term has been significantly impacted, there has been a concerted focus on the required learning for Term 1 across the school over recent weeks. A compilation of the awards and celebration of learning from Prep to Year 6, as well as the Class Indigenous Names for 2022, will be shared before the holidays to celebrate some of these achievements. Parents, the link to this little video will be shared via email with you before the holidays.
NAPLAN Preparations for 2022
NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress.
We are well on the way with our preparations for participating in NAPLAN Online again this year. Classes have been practicing in the secure NAPLAN training site as they master the various ICT skills required to engage with the online platform.
With the National Coordinated Practice Tests occurring late in Week 9 and early Week 10, relevant information outlining this process has been shared with the parents of our Year 3 and 5 students. Parents, just a reminder, please:
- Year 5 – ensure the NAP locked down browser, available at no cost in the App store, is downloaded to your child’s iPad in readiness for these tests; and
- Please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any additional questions leading up to these tests.

Assemblies
Last week we held our first Prep to year 3 assembly where the year 6 students escorted the Preps into the hall. The new Prep children took the new experience in their stride!
We also celebrated and presented the Student Council representatives from year 1 to Year 6 their badges.
The Student Council inspires leadership and encourages members to be involved in the development and running of activities around the school.
Bullying, No Way Day and Harmony Day
Last Friday the 18th March saw the Student Council organise and support activities around the school for Bullying, No Way day and Harmony Day. There was book reading in prep, games on the junior oval, colouring in at the CALM room,
letter and cards being written in the library and games on the senior oval with the students using their bodies to spell Be Kind which was this year’s theme.

STEM @ BPSS
We have had an exciting start to our STEM program here at BPSS this year! Classes have been coming into the Stemosphere and undertaking many engaging and challenging activities related to STEM.
Students in Prep – Year 3 have had an Engineering focus and used materials to construct various structures and undertake challenges. This resulted in many opportunities for trial and error where students are learning to identify why something has not worked and then try a different approach.
Students in Year 4 – 6 have had a Technology focus and have been working on coding activities specifically block coding. We have been using the ‘Scratch’ coding website to undertake different challenges and learn how to code animations. Some of the animations the students have made have been very creative and inventive!
